Thank you community members for signing up to receive our communications and showing an interest in volunteering. We hope this newsletter finds you all healthy and enjoying the beauty of this transition into spring in Humboldt. There is much AHHA news to share with you, so look forward to our next newsletter where we will talk about what’s happening to, with, and for AHHA. The Care-A-Van, mobile showers and pop up care center, is continuing to operate and serving the north coast communities of Eureka, Arcata, and McKinleyville. Over the years, AHHA has provided support to houseless individuals within Humboldt communities. Your participation is welcome in creating alternative affordable housing/shelter and making long-lasting change in our community. Check out our mission on the AHHA website to learn more about what we are working towards. As well as our past newsletters for a historical perspective. We are excited to Welcome new volunteers to join our cause! We appreciate all forms of involvement and would be happy to support your efforts on behalf of AHHA and our neighbors outside.

First step in getting involved:

Complete the Volunteer form on-line and we’ll give you a call back to complete the orientation. Complete the volunteer form online, after completing the form we will give you a call, an orientation video will be sent via email. If you have completed the orientation video send us an email explaining that you completed the video, your volunteer interests and availability.

Every 2nd Tuesday of each month there will be a volunteer zoom meeting 5:30-6:30 pm. To connect, address ideas or concerns, and foster growth & learning.

Volunteer opportunities

Shower Care-a-Van: Volunteers needed at Eureka & Arcata locations providing showers and supplies to houseless individuals. See schedule below to participate

Media and Publicity: writing or producing articles for print media or stories so people experiencing homelessness can share with the broader community.

Outreach: Compiling and sending newsletter and announcements to our mailing list and organizing volunteer efforts.

Fundraising: organizing AHHA forums or events, tabling at public events, visiting potential donors with pitch packets; strategizing for an on-going capital campaign.

Grant Writing: seeking out available grants and helping to write proposals for them.

Making Public Presentations: Developing an AHHA video or using AHHA website and videos posted there to encourage support. Writing articles and developing speaking opportunities by contacting churches, businesses, educational organization, other non- profits or organizations that work on housing and homelessness, and the community at large.

Engage in our volunteer opportunities & Consider becoming a board member, or committee member.
