AHHA is celebrating more than TEN YEARS of community service to our County. We are celebrating all year! We have survived Covid plus the usual challenges and stumbles affecting most grassroots charitable organizations of any duration. This alone calls for celebration! We have assisted thousands of our neighbors outside survive the covid pandemic too by offering showers, hygiene support, clothing and food, survival gear, referrals to physical and mental health providers, social services, housing and work opportunities through the Mobile Care-A-Van outreach services. Great strides have been made working with Humboldt's unhoused community members to move closer to safe shelter and housing options. More Good News: The Safe Parking and Safe Sheltering Ordinance has been extend for 24 more months with a commitment from the County to be more proactive in seeking engagement with local organizations to create these alternatives. STAY TUNED! Check it out on our web site or in your local news. We are happy to report the relaunch of the mobile showers and pop-up care center is going very well. In the first eight service days last year, we provided services for 326 guests. 114 of those received showers. With winter and the stormy weather, and awareness of the Care-A-Van, guests have increased. We receive lots of community support and gratitude for our outreach services. Thank you ALL! As we move deeper into 2024, we want to thank everyone for making this transition into our 10th anniversary year one filled with confidence and support. AHHA thanks our community collaborators and generous donors for their recognition of our work in the region and their commitment to our partnerships in social justice work. We want to thank a few of our local Foundations and Community Organizations for all their funding opportunities and support: Humboldt Area Foundation & Wild Rivers Community Fund, Coast Central Credit Union, Eureka First United Methodist Church, Church of the Joyful Healer, North Coast Cooperative, Old Town Community Alliance, VyncaCare, Open Door Wellness, Humboldt Area Center for Harm Reduction, and so very many individual donors who consistently support the work AHHA and our volunteers do in Humboldt. We also thank the HHHC for a donation of blankets, sleeping bags, ponchos, and backpacks and AHP for a $500 food card to support our outreach efforts, especially during this time of extreme weather. Partners and contributions like these highlight the community engagement and response to our requests necessary to move our community driven initiatives forward. AHHA is collaborating with a wide variety of organizations including Playhouse Arts and NEC in the spirit of partnerships to address the impacts of and on homeless in our communities. We’re all trying to build capacity, efficiency, and community. AND AHHA WANTS TO PARTNER WITH YOU! Come join our efforts. Everything helps from the smallest donation to the commitment of your time and talents as an integral part of the organization. The first Saturday of every month, AHHA holds a General Assembly at the Labor Temple in Eureka, 840 E Street, at 11:30 a.m. We have a meal (free and provided by volunteers) and meet from noon to 2:00 p.m. to discuss our initiatives and our programs.
