Hello and Good Day Dear Friends, Supporters and AHHA Volunteers! This message brings you a reminder about this Saturday’s General Assembly at the Labor Temple, 11:30 a.m. for snacks and chat, updates and exchanges of info on what is happening in Humboldt and with our communities, noon to 2p.m. Please join us either on-line with the zoom link included here or in person. All are welcome! The last few weeks have been harsh, very harsh, for our neighbors living outside or in their vehicles. We are sad to share that more folks we know have died recently due to extended exposure to the elements. We know their deaths are a result of system care and support for the unhoused among us that is sorely lacking. The number of those experiencing homelessness is growing. We will discuss the recent Eureka City Council special meeting/workshop on an authorized encampment or tiny house village in the city of Eureka or the unincorporated area adjacent to the city. We would like to hear your thoughts and ideas about the presentation and the options provided. A long-time AHHA volunteer, skilled in technology and web work, Bryan Roos has worked out a much better set up for the zoom attendees than we experienced in our previous meeting. Kitty searched on-line for a suitable conference mic and AHHA purchased it. We also spent an afternoon trying to configure the most appropriate scheme for projections and sound conduction. You will have to let us know how it works for you if you arrive via zoom. We have a lot going on and everyone is excited to share what they are doing and pique your interest in getting involved in the fun. We are going to have a Volunteer Celebration dinner at the Labor Temple, a catered event, on March 18, 3-6pm, with some entertainment and time for folks to socialize and hear what AHHA has accomplished with spectacular volunteer support. We will share a little about this upcoming event and the planned community BBQs every other month for folks living rough. The first BBQ is scheduled for April 1 in Eureka. We are still engaged full-on with building organizational capacity, and things are going well for our new Board thus far. We are making a specific outreach pitch for your participation on the Board and other AHHA Committees. The vibe is good and there are many benefits to being a part of the Board or a committee. Just a few things to consider, you get to: see the results of your work because it has a direct impact on people; be innovative and participate in creative collaborations; live your values; make a difference; meet new people, make friends, share good humor and a laugh. We hope to see you on Saturday for the GA. Tif will also share some of her recent presentation to the Humboldt Housing and Homeless Coalition on research compiled by HHEAL participants on how things are going for those who have recently gotten into the motel conversions in north Arcata and other housing opportunities.
