Hello and Good Day Dear Friends, Supporters and AHHA Volunteers!

This message is to let you know that September’s first Saturday General Assembly at the Labor Temple is cancelled due to the Labor Day holiday. We have had requests from people enjoying their time with family and friends in the forecasted sunshine in these last days of summer! We’ll be in touch and hope all will drop in on us at the North Country Fair, September 16th and 17th on the Arcata Plaza, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Please let us know if you’d like to volunteer to table at that event.

We also want to invite you to join us for a community gathering for Overdose Awareness Day (see attached flyer) on Thursday, August 31st, at Old Town Gazebo Plaza in Eureka from 5pm to 7pm. Please join us to honor those we have lost and to advocate for the end to fatal overdose.

The last few weeks have certainly involved the dynamics of change for AHHA. The number of those experiencing homelessness is growing, the need for housing and shelter is never lessened. We have been working hard to meet the deadlines of various grants. Wish us well in our pursuits, and we continue appreciate your support financially and in every way.

We want to alert you to the petition “City of Eureka Housing for All and Downtown Vitality Initiative” where more than 100 individuals have banded in support to urge others not to sign due to potential ramifications for grant funding of affordable housing. The action requested by that petition would go against the Housing Element for the City of Eureka. Learn more by reading this article.

More than ever, we are in the thick of capacity building, and urge you to consider volunteering by joining the AHHA Board of Directors, Working Groups and Committees. Just a few things to consider, you get to see the results of your work because it has a direct impact on people; be innovative and participate in creative collaborations; live your values; make a difference; meet new people, make friends, and share good humor and a laugh.
